Known for her high energy and inquisitive enthusiasm, Therese Iknoian is equally at home on mountain trails, in gyms or pounding out stories. After getting her undergraduate degree in journalism, Therese spent a decade as a newspaper reporter before launching a free-lance career in sports/fitness writing and instruction and earning a master’s degree in exercise physiology. Therese is the co-publisher/ co-editor of the GearTrends® Network, with websites and magazines specializing in the outdoor, fitness and sports markets. The Network includes www.GearTrends.com, a consumer and trade product and company information website; Specialty News (SNEWS® – www.snewsnet.com), a 24/7 online trade news sources for the fitness and outdoor industries; and the GearTrends trade magazines, including summer outdoor, winter outdoor, fitness annual and the business journal FitBiz. The network also publishes specialty supplements, as well as annual membership directories in partnership with major industry associations.
Therese is an internationally published free-lance health and fitness writer whose work has appeared in Men's Health, Fitness, Backpacker, Shape, Walking and Hooked on the Outdoors. She is a columnist for Trail Runner magazine, has written a syndicated fitness/sports newspaper column and been an editor-expert at websites, Fogdog Sports and GetFit. Her last six years as a full-time newspaper reporter were at the San Jose Mercury News, where she was a member of its 1990 Pulitzer Prize-winning news team. Therese has also written or contributed to many books, including Fitness Walking (2nd Ed., 2005), Mind-Body Fitness For Dummies and Tai Chi For Dummies.
She is certified as a Health/Fitness Instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine, gold-certified by the American Council on Exercise, and is a USA Track & Field-Level II certified coach. In addition to being a fitness enthusiast, Therese has been a nationally ranked race walker and now partakes in adventure races, trail running, mountain biking, weight lifting … and whatever else catches her fancy.
Therese is certified as a Health/Fitness Instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine and gold-certified by the American Council on Exercise. She is also USA Track & Field-certified coach and official who has coached national- and world-class youth and junior athletes. She and her husband Michael compete to see who can fill the closets, front porch and garage with the most athletic/outdoor shoes.
